Jane Gillie is a violinist and viola player with a strong interest in teaching.

She trained at the Guildhall School of Music and at the Salzburg Mozarteum. Her strongest influences have been Eli Goren, Sandro Vegh, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

She has been active as an orchestral and chamber musician. For a time she specialised in period playing. These days she enjoys playing in a variety of styles, with both period and modern instruments.

She is also a trained teacher of the Alexander Technique. She finds that this contributes greatly to her own comfort and freedom, and is a helpful tool in helping students play with ease and expression.

Orchestras she has played with include:

• Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment
• English Baroque Soloists
• ROH Covent Garden
• National Orchestra of Wales
• Peterborough String Orchestra
• Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra
• Camerata Academica, Salzburg
• Orchestra of English National Opera

Jane is available as performer and teacher of all ages. Teaching young children will incorporate educational ideas from Zoltan Kodaly, using the voice as a primary musical function.
